wild {unknown} friday

This weeks card, from The Fountain Tarot, is the Six of Cups. I asked for inspiration to help us to continue to weather the ups and downs of isolation and social distancing, which I think many of us are finding increasingly difficult as the weeks go on.

This card speaks of nostalgia and warm feelings of times gone by, and maybe now is the perfect moment to invoke these precious memories? We are grateful for the wonderful digital technologies which are helping us to stay connected to our loved ones, far and wide, in these unprecedented times, but maybe we could go old school, and fish out our analogue memory keepers too? This would be a great moment to leaf through photo albums and scrapbooks of happy times from years gone by, to remember our ancestors and reconnect the threads of our lives over the span of years and history.

Maybe, instead of electronic means of keeping in touch, we could write a letter or postcard to a loved one, or send a small but meaningful gift?

Another way of invoking memories of the past is through our sense of taste and smell. Perhaps there is a particular meal or food which is evocative of years gone by, which we could prepare now to transport us back to another place and time?

Finally, what about the power which music has to transport us back in time? For those of us lucky enough to still have vinyl and cassettes from another era, and the equipment to play them, what about an evening of letting music trigger memories of people and places long forgotten in the mists of time?

I hope that you are all coping with these unprecedented times, and that these suggestions help you to stay connected with your loved ones, if not physically, then at least in memory and spirit.

Until next time,

wild {unknown} friday

Sometimes, when we are desperately seeking change in our lives, it can seem as if nothing is moving. To outer appearances our life seems to stubbornly proceed in the way it always has, and things seem devoid of life and passion. The structure of our day to day lives seems solid and unchangeable, and we really can’t see a clear path forward, apart from the one we are stoically trudging along. However, just below the surface, still out of conscious awareness, things are starting to stir. Deeper down there is a riot of colour and inspiration which will soon break through to the surface. Hang on in there….the change we are seeking is on it’s way!

The card I drew today from The Wild Unknown is the Six of Cups. This card seems to hark back to a much richer and rosier past. The tangle of multicoloured roots seem to suggest that when we look back with nostalgia, things seem more vibrant and exciting.

However, when we don our rose tinted specs sometimes we can have a distorted and skewed vision of what came before, making the present seem dull and lack lustre in comparison. Especially if we had a happy and contented early life, it can seem as if some of the shine is being taken off as we age. Nothing seems as fresh or new anymore and we become jaded and cynical.

However, what we must remember is that all any of us has is the “now”, and if we spend all our time wishing to be transported back to a magical and mythical time of the past, we are in danger of completely missing our present and future.

Of course it’s great to look back on the happy memories of the past; just not so great if we get trapped there and waste the opportunity to make more awesome memories in the here and now.

If after careful and realistic consideration you genuinely believe that all your best times are behind you, then it’s time to reintegrate some of the people, places and activities that used to bring you joy! Think about some of your former passions and how you can reincorporate them into your life today. Start making new memories that you can look back on with warm, fuzzy feelings in years to come.

Daily Card ~ Six of Cups

The first thing which came to mind on drawing this card today was a line from an Oasis song…..”don’t look back in anger”. It reminded me that it’s time to let go of injustices and feelings that we were wronged in the past. What’s done is done, so draw a line under it and move on. Remember that by refusing to forgive we only harm ourselves in the long run.

Daily Card ~ Six of Cups

It would be tempting today to look back on the past and see it through rose tinted glasses. Does the present seem grey and boring in comparison? Sometimes if life appears not to be conforming to the pictures you created in your head it is easy to draw the conclusion that something is wrong. However, maybe everything is right? Perhaps everything really is happening perfectly and all is well.

Daily Card ~ Six of Cups

Today think about things you used to love in the past and bring them back into your world again. Something that once added colour, depth and richness to your existence, and that of others, is begging to be brought back to life. Think about your gifts, skills and strengths; what is there that has been neglected in recent times which you would love to reconnect with for your own and others benefit? Life has seemed quite barren of late, but bringing a relinquished passion back into your life could reawaken something long forgotten but once much loved.
