Daily Draw – The Mother of Wands

IMG_5653.JPG

Ok, so today I have drawn The Mother of Wands from The Wild Unknown deck for my daily card.

The “Mothers” in the tarot deck are all about the qualities of nurturing and protection and how we do this for others and for ourselves.

The Mother of Wands is passionate, vibrant, charismatic and creative. She is the type of mother who manages to maintain a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends, whilst also finding the time to pursue her own projects and endeavours in the outside world. This is the woman who is able to “do it all” and often we marvel at what she is able to achieve in the same twenty four hours that we are all apportioned. I think of someone like Nigella Lawson, the ultimate “domestic goddess”, who also manages to juggle multiple business projects alongside family life.

As a mother she is likely to be fiercely protective of her family, defending them to the death and supporting them through thick and thin.

When this card comes up it is likely to signify the querent, or someone with these qualities and attributes who is already, or soon to appear in the querents reality.

Alternatively, it can also be a call to embody some of the qualities of The Mother of Wands in your own life. I think this was certainly the case for me today as I contemplate whether I have the courage and conviction to move forward with plans and projects. I feel that a large dollop of confidence, passion, enthusiasm and self belief would certainly not go amiss!

Daily Draw – The Nine of Cups

The Nine of Cups is often referred to as the “wish card” and this is reflected in the card from The Wild Unknown deck by the horseshoe shape the cups are arranged in.

This card reminds us to be appreciative of all the good things we have in our lives. Sometimes we fall into the habit of only focusing on what is missing. The Nine of Cups prompts us to place our attention on the donut rather than the hole.

This calls for a time to live in the moment and really enjoy and savour all the things we have to be thankful for. If we can come up with just three things a day to be grateful for and write these down, over time it will become apparent just how lucky and blessed we really are. Sometimes by doing this we realise that the things that make us truly happy really are the simplest things, such as love and appreciation for our family and friends, relishing delicious food, or toasting ourselves in front of a roaring log fire on a cold winters day. We then know the truth of the old adage that “the best things in life are free”.

Daily Draw – The Six of Cups

This is a card that brings back happy recollections and the nostalgia of times gone by. In The Wild Unknown deck our “roots” are portrayed in vibrant colour to symbolise carefree days of laughter and fun and returning to a time when life was simpler and more spontaneous. Sometimes revisiting these memories can be therapeutic and can help to unearth buried emotional treasure. Maybe a problem or issue in the present time would benefit from being seen through the perspective of a more innocent and carefree lens?

I think that often as adults we are liable to take ourselves too seriously or to over complicate our problems and issues. Sometimes it might be better to just get together with an old friend or family member and have a good old laugh and reminisce about old times!

Of course, sometimes it is not possible to eradicate worries and problems so easily. In this case consider whether or not you need to review and come to terms with some aspect of your past life or childhood? This might be the time to seek out the services of a counsellor or therapist who can help you to reconcile and integrate any such issues.

Daily Draw – The Six of Swords

The Six of Swords is a card about transitioning from a place of stress and worry to a calmer place where peace of mind can be restored.

Sometimes it can seem that we are trapped in a situation that we know is doing is no favours, but it can be scary and disorientating to move forward. Often we feel that it is “better the devil we know” even though if we are truly honest with ourselves we will acknowledge that staying in this situation is self destructive and damaging.

We can find ourselves stuck in many circumstances that no longer serve us, whether that is a job, a relationship or a location. The longer we remain paralysed by fear of the unknown and afraid to move forward, the more likely it is that the stress and anxiety this engenders will progress to depression. Once this happens it is even more difficult to clamber out of the trap we have fallen into as we then are bogged down even further in the lethargy and hopelessness of despondency.

The rainbow overarching the card is a promise however that things can only get better if you can find the courage to move forward. Even if you only take “baby steps” you will eventually find yourself in a much more hopeful and positive place. It is challenging and scary to move out of your comfort zone, but necessary for your long term future happiness.

Daily Draw – The Sun

The Sun! One of the most overwhelmingly positive and auspicious cards in the tarot deck.

Just one look at this card says it all really. The beautiful warm, radiant colours emanating from the centre speak of vibrancy and vitality. The little birds at each corner look as if they are soaring with the joy and exhilaration of freedom and spontaneity. All is well with the world. The Sun has most definitely got his hat on and he’s coming out to play!

This card is a symbol of hope, happiness and positivity. Whatever issues you are grappling with, things can only get better!

Three of Cups

I love it when I come across a literal representation of a tarot card! Today it was the Three of Cups and the sense of friendship, conviviality and shared history which this card symbolises. It’s just three mates, hanging out together and enjoying each other’s company; old, established friendships where each person can just be themselves and feel relaxed and at ease. What could be nicer!
