The Spacious Tarot – Four of Pentacles

The Four of Pentacles is a card about stability, structure and security in the material world. The “pentacles” portrayed in this card, from The Spacious Tarot, are surrounded by dangerous looking spikes which protect them.

This week, make sure you protect yourself and your assets. At this time it is best to do your research and ensure that any financial or investment opportunities are rock solid. This is not a time to get involved with risky get rich quick schemes, or with questionable investments which may entice with claims of super sized returns. Make sure you get sound financial advice from a trusted advisor before you sign on the dotted line.

In some circumstances the Four of Pentacles can manifest as possessiveness and greed. If we are insecure, and scared of not having “enough”, this can translate into holding on too tight to material “things” and possessions. Only we really know if we are becoming too attached to stuff because of a need to remain in control and safe in an uncertain world. If this is the case, try to gently release things which are keeping you trapped, and travel through life with more lightness and ease. Remember that the more we hold on to “stuff”, the more we block the flow of abundance and risk damning the circulation of blessings entering our lives.

The Spacious Tarot – Elder of Swords

This weeks card is the Elder of Swords from The Spacious Tarot, known as the King of Swords in most tarot decks.

This card is all about truth, fairness and justice. It is examining the facts with forensic focus, rather than being swept away on a tide of emotive language and manipulation.

This week, don’t allow yourself to be swayed by anything that isn’t backed up by actual facts and figures, or scientific study. It is easy to be controlled and manipulated when we are barraged by information which is skewed to support a certain narrative.

This card, with it’s upright sword, and the crow illuminated by the sun, is a promise that the truth will out. Crows are known to be very intelligent birds, who noisily communicate with a large vocabulary of different calls. This week, listen to the voices which may be challenging the official narrative, but nevertheless may be speaking the truth.

The Spacious Tarot – Temperance

The Temperance card from The Spacious Tarot is all about balance. The fire licking up from the bottom of the card meets the icicles melting above, and by a process of alchemy creates steam.

Balance however, is not the same for everyone. Each person must find their own sense of balance and harmony which is perfect for them. The process is a bit like baking a cake, where you add a little of this, and a pinch of that, to create something which is exactly to your taste.

An analogy I heard recently really resonated for the symbolism of the Temperance card. It is the story of Goldilocks, where she tries various things until she finds one which is exactly right for her. So, one chair is too large, one is too small, but one is absolutely perfect. This sums up the sentiment behind the Temperance card, where we all must find that “Goldilocks” balance and harmony in our lives, and this will be different for each individual.

The Spacious Tarot – Seven of Swords

This week you may be feeling isolated and out on a limb, and this may be engendering a sense of confusion and being off track.

Perhaps, because of your beliefs or views about a situation, you may feel ostracised and sidelined and totally alone. It’s hard to go against the pack and stand in your own truth and integrity when there is intense pressure to conform to the majority view. However, it is vital to remain true to our own principles and values, although this often requires much courage and strength to do, when it seems we are out of step with society at large.

In order to feel less isolated, we need to find our own tribe. The kindred spirits who resonate with our own beliefs and values. Thankfully in this day and age it’s easy to find like minded souls online, even if we do not connect with these people in our everyday lives.

There is safety in numbers, so join together with others, to be the difference we wish to see in the world. We may not be able to effect change singlehandedly, but like an individual bee within a hive, together we can make big things happen.

The Spacious Tarot – Child of Pentacles

The Child of Pentacles is the archetypal “nature child”, although “child” in this context is more likely to mean someone with a youthful or child like attitude to the world. This is someone who loves to be outdoors, exploring their environment, and having adventures. They revel in the beauty and inspiration of nature.

This person has a fascination with how things work, and is endlessly curious and always asking questions. There is optimism and a sense of wonder here. The Child of Pentacles is very open minded about the discoveries they make. Nothing is set in stone yet, and so there is much freedom in this stance.

For the Page of Pentacles it is all about the journey, and the amazing discoveries along the way, rather than just reaching the destination. One important thing I feel most of us could learn from this character is to focus on enjoying the present moment; stop and smell the roses and be open to awakening our senses to the worldly pleasures which abound all around us. This seems to me to be an excellent antidote to the fear and uncertainty which is currently pervading our world, and reminds us of the wise tenet…..

As above so below; as within so without.

Ace of Wands

Over these last months there has been much heavy, dense energy. It has seemed at times as if we would never come through this darkness, that we would always be living in some perpetual half life.

That’s why I was very happy to see this card today….the Ace of Wands. It is the epitome of hope and optimism. A tiny spark has ignited….it’s not much at the moment but if we can nurture the flame and keep it alight it will begin to grow and spread. What’s more, if we can ALL light a tiny flame of positivity, love, peace and light, the effect will begin to spread exponentially, shining light into all the dark and scary places. Once illuminated these phantoms lose their power over us, to control through fear.

Sometimes we can feel powerless and helpless to effect change, but if we can truly be the change we wish to see in the world, then we can work miracles when we join together in pursuit of peace, beauty, joy and positivity. With this attitude we can reach a tipping point and truly change the world.

The Spacious Tarot – The Fool

The Fool often appears when a new adventure beckons. In The Spacious Tarot it is quite an unusual card as it doesn’t have any kind of human or animal representation of the Fool. In some ways this frees our imagination to be completely unfettered when visualising our next steps, and it allows us to use this card in a technique called Pathworking.

This is a simple process where we enter a meditative state and then imagine that we are actually stepping into the scene on the card. We can then explore the card whilst in a relaxed state, and notice any symbols, words, associations etc which arise.

As the Fool card often speaks of new beginnings, adventures and journeys, and taking a leap of faith, perhaps we could use the summit of the mountain depicted in this card, as a metaphor for a jumping off point? If we, in our imagination, go to the edge, and peer over the precipice, what do we see below? Does this give us any guidance about our direction and next steps in life?

The Spacious Tarot – Four of Wands

The Four of Wands often appears when there is a reason to celebrate! This feels like music to our ears after all the bad news and tragedy of the last few months.

The wands are alight…like bonfire night sparklers, showing us the way. Passing under their shimmering archway transports us into a new and magical space. We don’t fully appreciate yet the goodness and abundance we are heading towards, but we feel certain that we are entering better times, as the card seems to beckon us towards a galaxy of sparkling possibility.

This card can also herald a special right of passage, and the announcement of good news. It could be a myriad of happy occasions such as a birth, pregnancy announcement, special birthday or marriage.

The Four of Wands is certainly a very positive card, and augurs well for any new project which launches around this time. It is a beacon of light in what has been a very challenging, and at times, hopeless and despairing period in all our lives.

The Spacious Tarot – Death

What needs to die away this week in order to make space for something new? Perhaps your life has become cluttered with too much stuff, whether that is physical, spiritual, digital, or even relationships, which bog you down and mire you in extraneous and superfluous complication. Try pruning back some of these distractions and living more simply. We actually need very little, and often all the ‘stuff’ which we aquire can simply weigh us down with extra responsibility which we would be happier without.

The Spacious Tarot – Six of Pentacles

The Six of Pentacles is a card about sharing, prosperity, and giving. Sometimes we will be the ones doing the giving, and at other times we may be on the receiving end of someone else’s help and support.

This card is all about sharing out resources fairly, but not necessarily evenly. It is as if the pentacles are in suspended animation, waiting to drop, like pennies from heaven, exactly where they are needed at any given time. Abundance comes in many different guises….not just monetary….and is an energy which should be allowed to flow, without grasping or greed. If we can trust in the abundance of the Universe to meet our needs, then we don’t need to be so fearful about missing out on what we think is ours.

Another possible interpretation for this card is a caution not to put all our eggs in one basket. If possible it is best to keep several lines of prosperity open so that abundance can flow to us through various different channels.

It is important to remember that there is enough for everyone. The Universe is infinitely abundant, and in order to keep that abundance flowing we must remember not to try and hold on, but to allow prosperity to circulate freely, ensuring that everyone is richly provided for.
